KONDO TAKAHIRO
(b. 1958)

Kondô Takahiro was born into a lineage celebrated for
their traditional sometsuke (cobalt blue-and-white porcelain)
ceramics, as grandson of Kondô Yûzô (National
Living Treasure) and son of Kondô Hiroshi. Despite this
weighty heritage, Takahiro has not confined himself to the strictures
of this ancient tradition. For the last twelve years "Water"
has been a recurrent theme, which has led him to devise a unique
mixed-metal ("silver mist") glaze of silver, gold
and platinum that represents "water born out of fire."
