Artist Bio

Kondô TakahiroKondô Takahiro, grandson of Kondô Yûzô, Living National Treasure, and son of Kondô Hiroshi, was born into a lineage celebrated for their traditional sometsuke, cobalt blue-and-white porcelain ceramics. Despite this weighty heritage, Kondô Takahiro has not confined himself to the structures of this ancient tradition. For the last twelve years “Water” has been one of his recurrent themes, which has led him to devise a unique mixed-metal, or “silver mist” glaze. This glaze is composed of silver, gold and platinum, and represents “water born out of fire.” Glass has also come to be an important component of his oeuvre.
