Artist Bio

Born into a family of porcelain artists, Yoshita has forged an independent aesthetic that is both tied to the traditional kutani techniques of his native Kanazawa and at the same time reflective of his own sensibilities. His unusual pastel matte glazes are applied to the white porcelain bodies of his elegant vessels, often in overlapping patterns. He then uses metallic over-glaze gold to highlight the designs. Yoshita brought about a distinctive change to Kutani ceramics that is entirely his own, despite his impressive lineage (his father was designated a National Living National Treasure). He also incorporates European influences, especially the color palette of the Italian Renaissance— faded pastel shades seemingly created by the passage of time.
