While she had a passion for three-dimensional design since she was a student, Sei Mari first pursued this interest in the form of architecture at university and even worked for an architecture firm for many years. Gradually, she found herself drawn to the expressive potential of clay. Having trained in the medium with her mother, noted ceramist Emi Masuko, Sei has shifted her artistic focus exclusively to clay. She now creates swelling sculptures that she calls "Puffs." These works play with geometrical motifs transformed by the organic characteristics of clay. She uses blue and white glazes to highlight the contrast of her forms.
