Born 1936, Okayama Prefecture
Currently the Living National Treasure ceramist of Bizen ware, ISEZAKI JUN comes from a distinguished line of potters that have always used the anagama-style of firing as their hallmark. His father, Isezaki Yōzan, was a specialist in decorative figural works (saikumono) while his elder brother, Isezaki Mitsuru, specializes in teaware. Developing his own style apart from that of his family, Isezaki Jun creates works that are characterized by a sense of both boldness and lightness, representing his own aesthetic. Isezaki recognizes that it is his mission to create a new tradition that maintains its connection to his inheritance.
